Hearing Aid Fitting & Programming

Jul Hearing Aid Solutions makes the fitting and programming appointment easy for patients. No two hearing aids are alike, so getting a customized fit for your needs is important. After this appointment, a vital part of the treatment process will be complete and you’ll be able to experience life at full volume again.

Preparation

There are plenty of hearing resources available from Jul Hearing Aid Solutions. Behind the guidance of Dr. Marjorie Kessler, Au.D., our clinic will help you make informed decisions by giving you all the details you need and answering the most frequently asked questions. But patients are still encouraged to do their own research outside of the clinic for a complete experience. During the hearing aid evaluation, discuss the benefits and disadvantages of various hearing aid models and features with your audiologist to determine which solution will be most suited to your needs.

The Fitting

The fitting appointment typically lasts around an hour but can vary depending on your needs. Patients should plan to spend a little time afterwards with their audiologist to go over details about expectations and future appointments.

During the fitting, the audiologist will perform a sound test to find the best programming for the hearing aids. Based off of the measures from the eardrum, the test will proceed to the next step. Getting the right balance matters as it is a part of obtaining the perfect fit. That is why the preprogrammed hearing devices need a fine-tuning before they are ready for first time use.

Comfort matters, and is a big part of owning a hearing device. Wearing an uncomfortable device all day will ruin the experience, even if hearing is improved. The fitting isn’t complete until the patient is comfortable with the fit and the sound clarity of their hearing aids.

Live Speech Mapping

A familiar voice is one of the many things that relieves stress when hearing is restored during the fitting. Bringing along a close friend or loved one will help alleviate some of that discomfort. This is a recommended part of the fitting, and an important part of live speech mapping.

Live speech mapping is a new technology that audiologists use to see what their patient is hearing in real time. It is a replacement for other verification methods like real-ear measurement. Live speech mapping helps with sound accuracy, and greatly improves the methods required for validating the fitting. As hearing aids features become more advanced, live speech mapping becomes a necessary tool to get the best prescription.

Attitude is one important key to success with hearing aids. Hearing aid studies have shown that people who have a positive attitude do better with hearing aids. If you, as well as your spouse or family, approach your hearing aid fitting with a positive outlook you will have a much better listening experience more quickly. Keep in mind that it may take some time to get used to the sounds you were missing, and by working closely with your hearing professional; you will get the most out of your new hearing aids.
